14 Weeks done

We are now getting to the time where we are about to embark on the research side of our studies. With two more face to face classes the pressureis mounting to get the assignment done.

Week 13 being on Gamification and 14 on Engagement and Cultural Diversity I am looking forward to seeing how all this weaves into Teacher Inqiury week 15 as the link to our independant work is beginning to be webed.

With the quizz game Kahoot being introduced it spiced up the class quite a lot with many mini competions taking shape amongst the main competition.
The focus being on engagement
Behavioural - participation in learning and classroom activities
Emotional - students feel an emotional bond with the school, its teachers and their peers
Cognitive - a student's psychological investment in their own learning

Viewing a little into the cultural world of our learner posed many questions as an educator around howmuch cultural knowledge do we need to have of our learner?

Samoan Proverb (Alagāupu) Ua soona mitamita le manu o le tava’e i ona fulu. The tava’e bird is proud of its feathers.

Nationality is not a very meaningful concept. Culture is much more significant. “It is remarkable how fast and how effectively you can construct a nationality with a flag, a few speeches, and a national anthem.” (Taleb, 2008). Nick Taleb, who might be described in these terms as a Lebanese American, is dismissive of nationality, he sees it as a largely meaningless way of defining someone. (Mindlab 2017-18 intake notes)
